Why Soy?

Why Soy?

The Cleaner Burn.
The Better Choice.

Not all candles are created equal. We chose soy from the very beginning — and everything about how we make candles flows from that one decision.

Six Reasons We'll
Never Use Paraffin.

Paraffin wax is made from petroleum — a byproduct of crude oil. Soy wax is made from soybeans. The difference matters more than most people realize.

🌱
Eco-Friendly & Renewable
Soy wax is made from soybeans — a natural, renewable resource. Choosing soy supports American soy farmers and reduces dependence on petroleum-based products.
🍃
Non-Toxic & Clean Burning
Soy wax is non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. It contains no pesticides or herbicides, and burns without releasing the harmful chemicals that paraffin wax does.
⏱️
Burns Up to 50% Longer
Soy wax burns at a cooler temperature than paraffin — which means your candle lasts significantly longer. Up to 50% more burn time for the same size candle.
🌸
Beautiful Scent Throw
Soy wax holds fragrance exceptionally well. Combined with our premium fragrance oils, every Back Porch candle fills your space with a rich, true-to-scent throw.
🧵
100% Cotton Wicks
We use only lead-free, zinc-free cotton wicks. They provide a consistent, stable flame and burn cleanly from the first light to the last.
🧼
Easy to Clean Up
Spilled soy wax cleans up easily with hot water and soap. Unlike paraffin, it won't leave a stubborn, greasy residue behind on your surfaces.
50% longer burn time than paraffin wax candles of the same size

"Soy wax is so natural that in its raw form — without color or fragrance — it could actually be used for cooking. That's the kind of clean we're talking about."

Get the Most From
Every Candle.

Soy candles are a little different from paraffin — in the best way. Follow these simple steps and your candle will burn beautifully from the first light to the last.

01
The First Burn Matters
The first time you light your candle, let the wax melt all the way to the edges of the container before extinguishing. This prevents tunneling and sets your candle up for an even burn every time after. Allow around one hour depending on the container size.
02
Trim Your Wick
Because soy wax burns cooler, it requires a thicker wick — which means the wick doesn't burn completely and needs regular trimming. Before every burn, trim your wick to ¼ inch. This minimizes soot, prevents mushrooming, and gives you a longer-lasting candle.
03
Extinguish with Care
Instead of blowing out your candle, dip the wick into the melted wax and straighten it back up. This stops the wick from smoking, keeps the wick centered, and makes it easier to light next time.
04
Easy Cleanup
If soy wax spills, don't panic — it cleans up with hot water and soap. Although soy wax is biodegradable, avoid pouring melted wax down your drains to keep your plumbing happy.
